Where can I install Cork Tiles?

Cork has a natural texture with a soft, warm surface so is the perfect, environmentally conscious choice for the home. Our natural cork tiles are 100% plastic free and can be installed in a wide range of areas in the home including Hall, Kitchen, Lounge, Bedroom and can even be used in the Bathroom. Cork is an excellent alternative to standard hard flooring options.

How do I install Cork Tiles?

EarthTone cork tiles are installed by adhering the cork directly to the floor. To ensure a successful installation, proper sub-floor preparation is vital. It is important that the sub-floor is smooth, level, and completely dry, while also free from dust and grease. In cases where the sub-floor is not floating or lacks adequate ventilation, applying suitable moisture insulation is necessary. It is crucial to ensure that the moisture level of the sub-floor does not exceed 3% to maintain optimal conditions.

EarthTone cork tiles are pre-finished but for enhanced durability and joint sealing, we strongly advise varnishing cork tiles following installation. It is important to utilise a recommended varnish specifically designed for this purpose. Strictly adhere to the instructions provided by the varnish supplier to achieve optimal results.

Once the installation is complete, allow the adhesive coat to dry completely, which typically takes a minimum of 24 hours. The drying time may vary based on factors such as adhesive type, temperature, and relative humidity. Thoroughly clean the floor, vacuuming it to remove any adhesive stains.

When dealing with pre-finished cork tiles, apply 1-2 coats of varnish as recommended.

When dealing with unfinished cork tiles, apply 3 coats of varnish as recommended.

When installing Earth Tone tiles, the recommended adhesive is Wakol D3540.

When installing Earth Tone tiles, the recommended sealing finish is Lobadur Easyfinish.

How hard wearing is Cork Flooring?

EarthTone cork tiles are robust and hardwearing it has a 10 year domestic warranty (class 23 Heavy Domestic) and a 5 year commercial warranty (class 31 Light Commercial)

Where does Cork Flooring come from?

Cork flooring is made from the outer bark of the cork oak tree which grows across the Mediterranean and has a lifespan of about 300 years. The cork bark is stripped from the trunk in a sustainable manner every nine years and does not harm the tree. After harvesting, a new layer of cork starts to grow making cork a truly renewable and environmentally friendly resource.
