Cork Flooring

Our cork flooring comes from cork oak forests in Portugal, where the bark is carefully harvested by hand every nine years without felling a single tree. Once stripped, the tree regenerates its bark and absorbs up to five times more CO₂ in the process. It's one of the most sustainable flooring materials available — and it looks beautiful too.

We offer two types of cork flooring to suit different spaces and projects. Click cork flooring is a floating floor that installs just like laminate — no adhesive needed, making it a great DIY-friendly option for living rooms, hallways, kitchens and bedrooms. Glue-down cork tiles are adhered directly to the subfloor, making them ideal for areas with higher moisture levels — including bathrooms and kitchens — and for larger open-plan spaces where a fixed floor is preferable.

Cork is naturally warm and soft underfoot, making it a pleasure to walk on barefoot. It also has excellent acoustic and thermal insulation properties, helping to reduce noise between floors and keep rooms at a comfortable temperature year-round. All of our cork flooring ranges are compatible with underfloor heating.

Frequently Asked Questions About Cork Flooring

Is cork flooring suitable for kitchens? Cork flooring works very well in kitchens and is one of the most popular rooms for cork flooring installations. It's naturally comfortable to stand on for long periods, making it kinder on your feet and back than harder surfaces like tile or stone. Both our click and glue down cork tiles are suitable for kitchen installation. Surface spills are not a problem provided they are wiped up promptly - just avoid leaving standing water on the surface for extended periods.

Is cork flooring suitable for bathrooms? Our glue down cork tiles can be installed in bathrooms, provided the floor is properly prepared and the tiles are correctly sealed after installation. The fully adhered installation creates a more water resistant finish and avoids the potential of swelling which can occur with the click cork flooring options if they're exposed to excessive moisture.

Is cork flooring compatible with underfloor heating? Yes - cork flooring is compatible with underfloor heating systems, and actually performs well with them. Cork's natural thermal properties help distribute heat evenly and retain warmth so once warmed up they retain heat well. Always follow the manufacturer's guidance and don't allow the flooring to exceed 27°C.

What's the difference between click cork flooring and glue down cork tiles? Both are natural cork products but they install differently and suit different situations. Click cork flooring uses a floating installation method - the planks lock together and rest over the subfloor without being fixed to it, just like laminate flooring. This makes it easier to install as a DIY project and simpler to lift and replace if needed. Glue down cork tiles are adhered directly to the subfloor using a specialist adhesive, giving a more permanent finish. Glue down is the better choice for rooms that may experience higher moisture like bathrooms.

How durable is cork flooring? Cork is more durable than many people expect. Its natural cellular structure gives it resilience and handles everyday foot traffic well. The surface finish (either factory applied or applied after installation) provides an additional protective layer. Like any natural floor, cork can be dented by heavy furniture with sharp or narrow legs, so we recommend using protective felt pads under furniture. With proper care and maintenance, cork flooring can last for decades.

Is cork flooring a good choice for allergy sufferers? Yes. Cork is naturally resistant to mould, mildew, bacteria and dust mites, which makes it an excellent choice for allergy sufferers and those with respiratory sensitivities. It doesn't trap dust and allergens and doesn't off-gas VOCs. It's a particularly good option for bedrooms and living spaces where air quality matters most.

How do I clean and maintain cork flooring? Day to day maintenance is straightforward - regular sweeping or vacuuming (without a beater bar) is sufficient to keep the surface clean. Wipe up spills promptly with a slightly damp cloth. Mop with a damp microfibre mop using a natural pH neutral cleaner like our Cork Floor Cleaner. Do not use steam mops, abrasive cleaners or solvent based products.
